The Washington Heights Memoir Project aims to provide a platform to immortalize the narratives of a community that is slowly losing its longstanding Dominican inhabitants due to gentrification.

About the event
This Workshop series will include current and past residents of Washington Heights neighborhoods including youth with similar artistic pursuits in order to create an archive of our experiences living and or working in Washingtong Heights.
Requirements:
- Particpants will be required to have resided in the neighborhood at least 2 years in order to contribute.
- Participants will write their stories, polish their work & see it through the publishing stage in the form of an anthology.
- Participants MUST attend at least 5 workshops in order to polish their work and be included in the anthology.
Workshop Facilitator:
Francis Mateo – Bachelor in English Literature from Hunter College (CUNY), a MFA in acting from Brooklyn College. Francis’ poetry and short stories have been published in different magazines in Argentina, U.S.A., Germany, and Dominican Republic. Francis performed with the band La Sovietika poems from his first book of poetry, “Ubre Urbe”. Francis' second book is out now, El Alto published by Ediciones Cielonaranja.
